Ocean Reef Aria Snorkel Mask Review (Full Face Mask)

Action Camera Mount, Where is it?

Many full face snorkel masks are fitted with an action camera mount on the breathing tube that allows you to record your dive without having to use your hands, and without having to adjust it as it points in the same direction as your mask.

The Ocean Reef Aria does not come with a camera mount. You are able to buy the attachment separately, but once you realize just how great this mask is, you will have no problems with buying the attachment.

In-Depth Review of the Ocean Reef Aria Full Face Snorkel Mask

The Ocean Reef Aria may be in the more expensive price range, but it is well worth the money. We took a couple of them to the beach to see how they fare in their natural habitat, in the open ocean.

Like with the other masks we have reviewed, we wanted to see if the Aria was watertight, if its anti-fogging design held up, if breathing was easy and natural, and just the overall experience of wearing and using one.

Size and Ease of Transport (10/10)

The mask itself is relatively lightweight and can be easily stored in a backpack or beach bag when traveling. It won’t weigh you down on a hike or long walk, and can easily fit in a travel bag when going on holiday.

The mask has a removable snorkel, this makes it even smaller and even easier to travel with. We barely noticed we had 2 of them in our bag.

Breathing (9/10)

The breathing capabilities of this mask is where it sets it apart from some of the other full face masks in the lower price range. It allows you to breathe normally through your nose, while exhaling through your mouth.

This is common amongst full face snorkel masks, as it is the standard way of breathing when using one, but the Aria felt different, in a good way. It almost felt easier to breathe when compared to other masks we have tested, a big plus in our books.

Visibility (10/10)

The Aria has a huge lens that allows you to see absolutely everything around you. It is also a flat lens mask, opposed to a rounded lens which causes a fisheye effect and can cause headaches and dizziness if used for prolonged period of time.

If you have problems with your eyes and wear glasses, you are able to fit a prescription lens in the mask. The crystal clear lens allows for incredible clarity when snorkeling, and you won’t miss a single thing around you.

Anti-Fogging (8/10)

The Aria has a partition in the mask between the front of the mask and the lens, this allows fresh air to enter the mask and prevents fogging. There’s no need to constantly take the mask off and clear the fogging.

Unlike other full face masks that have a tube that brings in oxygen and another one that takes carbon dioxide out, this partition, to our surprise if we’re honest, does the job just as well.

Dry-Top Functionality (8/10)

The Aria is fitted with a Dry-Top, which prevents water entering your breathing tube if you completely submerge it or go underwater. This is a common feature of full face masks, so we can only judge it compared to other masks we have reviewed.

It works very well, we had barely any water entering the mask. The mask is also fitted with a purge valve at the bottom, where the water can gather and you can easily get rid of it once you are on the surface of the water.

Seal (10/10)

The seal of the mask is determined by you purchasing the right size. Finding the right size is relatively easy, just measure a few aspects of your face and then find the appropriate size. This is an important piece of information that shouldn’t be overlooked.

The Aria has an incredibly good seal. We didn’t experience any leakage of water through it and our faces were dry every time we we took it off.

Durability (8.5/10)

What differs this mask from others is the material used to build it. The mask and lens is made from thermoplastic, which is made by rapidly heating synthetic material, and then cooling it, making it incredibly hard.

This makes the mask very strong and durable, but still lightweight. It is not weighed down by heavy materials or joints, and is the perfect mix between weight and strength.

Action Camera Attachment (8/10)

The Aria does not come with an action camera attachment on the snorkel, but there is a separate attachment that slides onto the snorkel that then has the action camera mount on it.

The attachment slips onto the breathing tube, is then fitted securely, and you can then attach your camera. This may be an extra expense, but we highly suggest purchasing one, especially if you are planning on documenting your dives, this is the easiest way to do it.

Price (8/10)

The Aria is definitely one of the more expensive masks we have reviewed. But after all our testing, we can’t find a reason not to spend the money. It is strong, durable, incredibly well-made, and won’t need replacing any time soon.

If you are looking for a mask that is a bit cheaper though, we suggest the Seaview Full Face Snorkel Mask. it is reliable, and does exactly what it says on the box. If you are looking for a mask that you won’t use very often, or just for one trip, the Seaview is for you.

Conclusion

To conclude, the Ocean Reef Aria Full Face Snorkel Mask is definitely one of the more superior masks on the market. It is in the expensive price bracket, but if you have the money for it, it is worth it.

Yes, there are cheaper options on the market, masks that work great and will serve you well, but if you are looking for one of the best, we can’t suggest the Aria enough, it will last you a long time, and may just be the last mask you ever buy.
